the Pro Pair Go Ricoh Cup 2002
report
ĄThe final game
The game resumed. As it was announced that the fujite was black 69, there was a stir among the spectators. It seemed that a large number of people cast the correct answer, including commentator 9-dan Mr. Takemiya.
It appeared that the final game would end with a slight difference of 0.5 moku. This time, however, White made a questionable move. Against black 129, White made white 130, thinking that White can approach the black stones on the upper left corner by sente. But this thought was wrong. White made move 132 impatiently, which was gote. Black tried to gain on the upper left corner by using move 131. However, move 139 made by Black was not sufficiently effective and White made move 140 to cope with it. As a result, there was a small difference between the two pairs again. It seemed that Black was a little more favorable than White. In the final stage when the game was about to end, the game was accidentally played in the wrong order. Ms. Inori made a move though it was Mr. Cho's turn. However, both pairs went on playing without noticing this mistake. If this mistake is found before the next move, the pair who made it is subject to a penalty of three moku. But if only one move is made after this mistake, the opposing pair can no longer call for the penalty. In this case, no penalty was imposed because all the four players continued playing for a while without noticing it.
The game ended with the 198th move and Black won by 2.5 moku. The championship winner, 5-dan Ms. Inori and Oza Mr. Cho, stared at each other's face. Smile spread on their faces. Oza Mr. Cho seldom shows his feelings, whether he wins or loses a game. But this day was different. He expressed his joy with the whole body.
