RICOH CUP 2005
report

The Changan Great Theater

At last, it's on the day of the final game.
Ms. Kato replied to the pre-game interview, "I will do my best, but try not to be too much fighting spirited." Mr. Oh and Ms. Kato looked at each other with a smile, and he said, "I am satisfied with the performance to have got through up to the final. I would like to play at ease. Strategy? It's should be a secret." Afterward, Mr. Oh listened to the interview for the Ms. Aoki & Mr. Mimura pair and joked, "I must learn about the strategy of our adversary."
Mr. Mimura said, "Our strategy is always quite simple. Because Ms. Aoki is steady, I will be only following her." Ms. Aoki replied, "Any way, I would like to try not to ruin his efforts." She seems to be easy since their Go styles are similar to each other's, and they do not need any detailed strategy. Mr. Oh nodded his head in agreement with a confident manner.

Then, all the personnel involved had a luncheon. Ms. Hiroko Taki, a director of Japan Pair Go Association, gave a speech, "I am very pleased to realize our long awaited dreams of playing the game in Beijing. I hope this event would lead many Chinese people to enjoy the pair-Go from now on." Mr.Wang Runan, the 8- Dan, a chairman of China Go Association, returned a welcoming speech warmly, "I would like to express my acknowledgement for having the tournament here in Beijing. I'm sure that the pair-Go would capture many Go fans in China, and become more popular in the future."
For the toast afterward, the Ms. Aoki & Mr. Mimura pair was served with a glass of bear while expressing their gratitude, "Thank you, but just a little please." On the other hand, the Ms. Kato & Mr. Oh pair ordered a glass of juice, while saying, "We prohibit any alcohol before playing the game."

There was another ceremony prior to the final game. That was a press conference. Ms. Taki explained about history of the pair-Go, history of the Ricoh Cup Tournament, and the history up to the final game in this tournament; and Mr. Oh, the chairman, gave a speech with thoughtful words about the attraction of the par-Go as well as the importance of the Japan-China exchange. There was a crowd of the presses more than 50, which was a good evidence of the Chinese Go fans' deep interest.
