Pair Go RICOH CUP 2009
Tournament Report

In the 2nd round, I have a lot to tell you. Izumi and Sakai pair against Suzuki and Koichi pair is a father against daughter game, the same as last year. At the commentary room, 24th Honinbo Syuho said, "I'm sure Koichi doesn't want to lose." He is supporting the father. Maybe, by his support, Suzuki and Koichi pair won by resigning. Koichi 9dan said, "I lost against Izumi, last year. Today, she was modest." He was laughing.

In the 2nd round, Tsukuda and Cho pair who lost against Shei and Iyama pair who revenged for the Meijin title played another player connected to Cho. This time, he played against Rin Kono 9dan from whom Cho won the title of Tengen 2 days before. The result was Yoshida and Kono pair won by resigning. Cho Meijin / Tengen / Gosei lost in the 2nd round, too. Tsukuda 5dan said, "I tried to play the first move with the feeling of U Cho san, congratulations for getting the Tengen title! But the first move made Tengen angry."

The game of Mannami and Yamashita pair against Okada and Hikosaka pair was full of drama.
By the 24th Honinbo Syuho's comment, "Furikawari(trade) between the upper left and bottom left, the black(Okada and Hikosaka pair) caused so much loss. The white was supposed to win this game." But Pair Go is interesting that the situation changes suddenly and the black started to lead. Then, Yamashita Kisei / Oza made a wrong turn and had to pay 3 stones penalty. And, the result was black won by 2 and a half stones. After the game, in the waiting room, Yamashita Kisei / Oza said, "Ah~, if I didn't make a mistake with turns, we could have won." He was deep in grief.

The game of Keiko Kato and Hane pair against Tomoko Kato and Takao pair was a big reverse game.
24th Honinbo Syuho said, "The black (Tomoko Kato and Takao pair) on the upper right did well. It was difficult for the white to win." He was saying that the black would win. But his comment is changed, "What! The white on the right is alive! Who is leading? Yet, there seems to be more black." Then, he changed his comment again, "The white played the winning move and is leading." And the result was white won by 1 and a half stones. Takao Judan said, "The 2nd game was winning Go but I don't understand why we lost." The whole day, he was wondering why he lost.

At the game of Konishi and Yoda pair against Koyama and Ko pair, there was a happening that made Ko 7dan nearly jump. Koyama 5dan said looking back their game, "We had a hard time." But the "easy going pair" made the opponent relaxed and in the difficult game, they won by resigning.

The game of Aoki and Yamada pair against Yashiro and So pair was also a difficult game. Aoki 8dan said looking back at their game, "The white (Aoki and Yamada pair) wasn't leading but we did well at the end." Later, it became ko and because of lack of ko, Yashiro and So pair had to resign.

At the game of Osawa and Cho pair against Chinen and Satoru Kobayashi pair, Osawa and Cho pair won by resigning while gaining a big area.
