The French pair of Myrtille Cristiani and Paul Drouot ran into opponents who were too strong for them, the Japanese team of Tomoyumi Baba and Sugitaro Saito, in the first round but they fought strongly thereafter and took 10th place. |

Two strong Asian teams started out with wins. Korea (Hye Lim Kim and Chang Bae Kang) defeated Singapore (Guek Beng Seng and Yu Xiang Lou), and China (Yi Ming Chen and Li Rong Liu) defeated Spain (Araceli Checa and Andres Tallos). The Spanish team was made up of two kyu players, but they played excellently on the second day, winning two games. That probably gave them good memories of the tournament.
There were a number of other teams made up of kyu players, and they all enjoyed the tournament. After games finished, the pairs took commemorative photographs and enjoyed the friendly atmosphere. Some teams had presents that they handed over to their opponents in each round. The delighted ‘thank you very much’ of the recipients almost sounded like Japanese.
The results on the first day have a big effect on the morale of the teams. If you win, you can begin the second day with high hopes, and you enjoy the Saturday night party all the more. For the teams that lose, it’s important to change your mood. Mutual sympathy is essential so that you don’t let the bad start worry you too much and you can enjoy the second day. |
